OVERVIEW
Working with Folding Chair Design is rooted in transparency, intention, and trust. From our very first conversation, we clearly outline how our process works so clients feel informed and confident at every stage.
Each project begins with a brief “Smart Call,” a high-level discussion of your goals and an introduction to our full-service approach. All prospective clients then meet with us in person for a detailed review of their home, our Investment Guide and our signature three-phase design process, an approach we use for every project we undertake. This structured process allows both our clients and our team to navigate complex, long-term projects with clarity and efficiency.
We lead projects from architectural planning through final installation of furnishings and accessories. Most projects span 6–12 months or longer, allowing for a thoughtful, layered design approach. Our work is at its best when we are given the time to carefully curate, source, and acquire pieces for clients with thoughtfulness and intention.

“One of our clients bought a home with a vast entry, long hallways, high ceilings, and lots of trim! We decided the walls in all of the common areas would be white; but which white? We brought pots and large paint swatches of all our favorites, and even some new ones. We painted for three days, in every light, on every wall that would have it. We had votes, we had discussions, we had whole walls painted to be sure. We ended up picking White Dove by Benjamin Moore—the first paint chip Jen put on her desk when we started!”

our services
NEW BUILD// Starting at ground zero, we work with architects, builders, and all necessary vendors to lay the groundwork for your dream home. Full drawings, specifications, communication and project management of all aspects of the build process puts the hard work in our hands, so you don’t have to.
FULL HOME DESIGN// The heart of what we do. This service includes consultation, full measure and floorplans, design concepts with fabric, furnishings, and finishes. Room design typically takes 3-5 weeks in planning, 4-6 weeks in design, and 8-12 weeks in procurement and delivery. We handle every aspect of the process from initial budgeting to install of full. At this time, we do not do partial room design. To do our best work, we like to work from the ground up. We require a minimum project spend of $150,000 for furnishings (exclusive of design fees).
RENOVATION + REMODELING// We can oversee your renovation project with one of our preferred builders or one of your choosing. We can provide space planning within proposed footprints for additions to existing homes as well as new builds. We also provide kitchen and bathroom design. We require two additional rooms to design with any kitchen renovation project.
STYLING// This a la carte service is designed for builders and designers looking to accessorize, stage, and elevate their spaces for the purposes of professional photography.
THE PROCESS
FCD follows a standardized design-build process, which makes renovations more enjoyable with fewer surprises. Our 15 Step Project Management Strategy and related fees are divided into three distinct phases as described below:
PHASE ONE | Project Initiation
STEP 1 Consultation
STEP 2 Engagement: Contract, Retainer, Project Commencement
PHASE TWO | Research, Design, Presentation
STEP 3 Design and Documentation: Trade Day, Execution of drawings, space and floor planning, mood/sample boards, 3D renders of spaces (where appropriate and approved by client), sourcing goods and services, procuring estimates
STEP 4 Presentation: Visuals of all planned furnishings and materials; presentation of Estimator and collection of Deposit
PHASE THREE | Project Management
STEP 5 Order Placement: Orders made, Order matrix created, Establishment of delivery lead-times
STEP 6 Deliverables: Management of all orders and goods to warehouse or FCD
STEP 6 Progress: Meetings and management of design process internally and with sub-trades
STEP 8 Site Wrap: Finalization of pre-installation construction and site work completed
STEP 9 Installation: Delivery of goods to client’s home
STEP 10 Project Closure: Client Reveal and delivery of project end binder/documentation
